Thunder notebook: Defensive improvement evident

The Thunder offense has suffered playing five games in seven days with only one third of the offense installed the first week of camp. But that was the plan. The goal was to emphasize defense after the Sonics gave up 106.3 points a game last season.

There’s been noticeable defensive improvement. Through five preseason games, the Thunder is allowing 99.6 points. Throw out the 122-point meltdown against Golden State and Oklahoma City has allowed 94.0 points in its other four games.

"We know we have a lot of work to do, but we’ve made a lot of progress defensively,” coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "At times, we look like a good defensive team. We certainly don’t look like a good offensive team. We don’t get into our sets. We don’t do a good job with shot selection. A lot of that is me, because we emphasized defense.”

Practice, practice, practice
Following a grueling road trip, Carlesimo gave players Wednesday off. The team will return to practice today. Because of injuries, Carlesimo said he might give players another day off, possibly Friday or Sunday.
