Rapper Lil Wayne didn't have tickets to attend Game 3 between the Thunder and San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night. Turns out, he should have checked with three-time scoring champ Kevin Durant.
Durant says he has two extra front-row seats he is willing to share to bring celebrity status to Chesapeake Energy Arena for Game 4 on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. With its 102-82 victory over the Spurs in Game 3, the Thunder now trails 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals.
Lil Wayne posted on Twitter he was "going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena" because he had not bought a ticket.
Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney said Lil Wayne's representatives did contact the team requesting tickets, but insisted he sit on the front row. None of those seats were available. OKC has sold out every home game during the regular season and playoffs, plus the last 14 games last season.
"We'd love to have him at a game," Mahoney said, "but like anyone else, he needs a ticket."
An agitated Lil Wayne finished his tweet with "Go Spurs!"
The Thunder's James Harden also reached out to Lil Wayne, tweeting, “Come to the Next game. We got seats for u 5! Whooppp!”
When informed about the matter, Thunder coach Scott Brooks jokingly chimed in: "Lil Wayne? That's my guy. I took a picture with him at All-Star break. What'd he say? Is he mad at us?"
Brooks was then told the rapper tweeted "Go Spurs."
"I'm not going to sign that picture then," Brooks joked.
