The Thunder on Friday waived former Oklahoma center Longar Longar and point guard Demond "Tweety" Carter.

Carter played Thursday against CSKA Moscow and finished with four points and one steal in four minutes. Longar played two minutes against Memphis on Tuesday in Tulsa.

The Thunder roster now stands at 17, two over the regular-season limit.

"There's a lot of decision that goes in to bringing guys in (for training camp)," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "In order to make it a competitive camp, you have to have competitive people. Tweety was competitive from the day we brought him in. He did a good job. He has a chance to play basketball for money. I don't know what his plans are right now, but we had a good talk. There are a lot of good players who are released, if they stick with it and continue to get better, they have a chance.

"He was really good for us. He pushed our point guards. He's a pressure defender. That's just the nature of the business. You've got to make cuts. The limit is 15."

As Team USA's coach for the FIBA World Championship last summer, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski enjoyed the same perk as Brooks, who last season was the NBA's Coach of the Year.

"People thought I was a good coach, but anybody can coach Kevin Durant," Brooks said with a smile. "K.D. is coachable. Coach K is obviously one of the best coaches in the world, but he does teach the same things that we do — defend and move the ball. It was fun to watch. You could not help but enjoy yourself watching Team USA this past summer. Coach K is good."

When he addressed his Duke team after winning the gold medal in Turkey, Krzyzewski raved about Durant's defense. Brooks has said Durant is becoming one of the team's best defenders. Durant smiled and chuckled that his defense would be singled out.
