Thunder notebook: OKC could reach No. 2 seed

The Thunder has secured no worse than the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and could rise as high as No. 2.

There is a three-team race for the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the Western Conference among the Los Angeles Lakers (55-23), Dallas (53-25) and the Thunder (52-26).


Should OKC win its home game against Denver and if the Lakers lose at Portland, both on Friday night, the Thunder could pull within one game of the No. 2 seed with a victory against the Lakers inside Staples Center on Sunday.

The remaining schedules for OKC, LA and Dallas:

Lakers: Friday at Portland; Sunday vs. OKC; Tuesday vs. San Antonio; Wednesday at Sacramento.

Mavericks: Friday vs. LA Clippers; Sunday vs. Phoenix; Monday at Houston; Wednesday vs. New Orleans.

Thunder: Friday vs. Denver; Sunday at Lakers; Monday at Sacramento; Wednesday vs. Milwaukee.

The playoffs begin April 16 and 17.

TIEBREAKERS

If OKC and Denver finish with the same record, the Thunder wins the tiebreaker because of a better Northwest Division record (currently 12-3 vs. 8-5).

If OKC and Dallas finish with the same record, the Thunder wins the tiebreaker because it is a division winner, even though the Mavericks won the season series 2-1.
