Thunder notebook: Spending the weekend with future teammates

BY JOHN ROHDE, Staff Writer, Published: February 27, 2012

Sprite announced during NBA All-Star weekend that Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), LeBron James (Miami Heat), Omri Casspi (Cleveland Cavaliers), Andrea Bargnani (Toronto Raptors) and the Thunder's Serge Ibaka will coach top amateur players discovered in a global search.

The exhibition game will take place at next year's All-Star Game in Houston.

No longer is OKC young, quiet and meek.

In the Thunder's first year of existence in 2008-09, it tied for last in the league in technical fouls with 31. The following season, OKC finished 27th with 42 technicals. Last season, the Thunder finished 19th with 62 technical fouls. So far this season, OKC is tied for fifth with 37 technical fouls through 34 games.

Center Kendrick Perkins leads the way with 11, although there appears to be a discrepancy as to whether he had had one rescinded or two (which would give him 10). Russell Westbrook has six (one rescinded), Kevin Durant and Ibaka (one rescinded) have two, James Harden, Nazr Mohammed, Ryan Reid and coach Scott Brooks have one each. The remaining technicals are for defensive 3-second calls or delay of game.

Westbrook on the Thunder excelling during All-Star weekend and proving it is on equal footing with the NBA elite: “That's what we try to do. Wherever we go, put our OKC stamp on something. Everybody doesn't get to make it out to OKC so you gotta show them something.”
