Thunder notebook: Staying the course

Oklahoman Published: November 17, 2008
After suffering its largest defeat of the season, a 25-point loss to Philadelphia on Saturday, the Thunder held a players-only meeting inside the locker room following the game. Several players viewed the brief discussion as beneficial.

"A lot of teams find different ways to kind of separate,” said Joe Smith. "But we realize that right now, since it’s early, it’s about us and what we do out there on the floor. We can’t keep looking elsewhere for support and help. We’ve got to find a way to do it together out there on the floor.”

After allowing only 93.5 points over its first six games, Oklahoma City has now given up 110.5 points in the past four contests.

"It’s going to take some time, but we’re going to pull it together,” said Jeff Green. "We’re just going through some pain right now, but I feel like it’s going to turn around soon and we’re going to start getting on this win streak soon. We just got to continue to stay focused and stay positive and continue to play as a team.”

Point guard Earl Watson compared this Thunder team to the little brother in a family who always gets picked on before eventually figuring things out and finding a way to triumph.

"We learn the hard way,” Watson said.
