Thunder player gives to children's charity

Oklahoma City Thunder Forward Nick Collison donated money to help children with special needs.

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Nick Collison donated $40,000 to Special Care, an Oklahoma City program specializing in education and therapy.

Collison said he is excited to be able to help Special Care, and he and former teammate Morris Peterson spent time with the children and staff.

“I am thrilled to be able to help out an organization like Special Care,” he said in a news release. “I was able to visit earlier in the year and was very impressed with the work they do. The amount of care and attention they are able to provide has an enormous impact on the kids who are part of the program.”

The Thunder Community Foundation recently hosted an auction of autographed Thunder items, and proceeds were donated to Special Care. One of the items was the jersey Collison wore Jan. 30 during the Thunder game against the Miami Heat.
