Thunder players recount what they did this summer

By Mike Baldwin, Staff Writer Published: October 3, 2009
Some players took a short vacation. One got married and was captain of his national team that finished as the runner-up in the European Championships. Another welcomed a new daughter, born in Europe. A few players took summer classes.

Everyone spent tons of hours in the gym working on their games. In their own words, Thunder players talk about what they did this past summer.

Nick Collison
"I really didn’t take a lot of trips. I spent a lot of time taking my daughter to the park. I did swimming lessons with her. That was fun. She’s 31/2 (years old). We kind of let her have a good summer. We’re so busy during the season, it was nice just to be able to relax, more of a normal family with more time at home.”

Thabo Sefolosha
"It was a pretty busy summer with the new baby and a lot of work I put into my game. I spent a lot of time with my family. I spent most of my time in Switzerland and went back and forth to France because my wife is from France. I spent a lot of time working on my game. The newborn baby was the best part. She’s great. Just a little less sleep.”

James Harden
"There’s been a lot of traveling, a lot of rookie things (like a mandatory three-day rookie seminar). Nothing too crazy. I worked out here some (in Oklahoma City), getting familiar with my teammates. I also went to Washington, D.C., to meet up with some of the guys (for Kevin Durant’s birthday party). That was a lot of fun. Kevin and Jeff (Green) showed me around the city. It was my first time (to D.C.). We spent a little time at Georgetown and did some fun things.”

Shaun Livingston
"Back home, I put on a free camp for kids in the inner city that I put on every year (in Peoria, Ill.), reach out to the Boys and Girls Clubs. Hopefully they learn life skills and basketball. I got to see all my family, relax and vacation a little bit. I’ll spare you the details on that. But it was good. Of course, I spent a lot of time working out, getting ready for the season.”

Kyle Weaver
"I’m from a small town (Beloit, Wis.). To go off and play in the NBA is pretty special. I held a camp there and ran a food drive. They were crying. In tears. That was crazy. It felt good to see people literally in tears to get a box of food, give them a hug or sign something for them. I had a lot of different things to sign. The weirdest thing I signed was this lady in a picture with someone else. I just signed it.”

Jeff Green
"I finished my classes at Georgetown and played pick-up ball with (Kevin Durant).
