C’mon, you can’t fool Gregg Popovich.
When it was initially announced that Serge Ibaka would likely be out for the playoffs, the Spurs were skeptical and went about their business as if Ibaka was suiting up. And when the news broke that Ibaka was upgraded to day-to-day on Friday, Popovich reminded everyone that the Spurs know more than you, and they don't sleep on anything.
Pop on announcement of Ibaka being upgraded: "Shocked ... We know Sammy (Presti). We knew he'd be back."— Jeff McDonald (@JMcDonald_SAEN) May 23, 2014
Can't you just hear the Pop sarcasm? Popovich and Presti go back to Presti's days as a front-office executive with the Spurs during their run of titles in the 2000s, so the longtime Spurs coach does know the Thunder GM better than most.
In a Friday press conference Sam Presti didn’t make any guarantees about Ibaka playing, but it would be a big boost to a Thunder team that's been beaten soundly in two games of the Western Conference Finals.
