Houston guard Patrick Beverley is sure to receive quite the welcome from Thunder fans on Wednesday night.
To try to get a gauge on just how, um, enthusiastic that reception might be I reached out to Garrett Haviland. You know him better as the rotund guy in the Mexican wrestler’s mask with the megaphone. “Thundor” is his super fan nickname. But really, he’s just a super passionate Thunder fan. And since it was a play by Beverley that injured and ultimately knocked Russell Westbrook out of the playoffs, I knew Haviland would have an opinion.
Did he ever.
“Beverley made an overzealous attempt at a steal that has no doubt put a damper on an otherwise hopeful Thunder playoff run,” Haviland said. “Did he do it on purpose? No. Will I boo him like he is World Peace fresh off his infamous elbow? Oh, yes.
“For Beverley, I don’t hate the man. I don’t hate his game nor his passion for the game. All I really hate is the outcome and all that disappointment and frustration has to be manifested somehow on something, or someone.
“So as far as Beverley is concerned and for all he has done, I say ‘Boo!’”
I suspect Haviland won’t be the only one saying that.
