Thunder's Kevin Durant closing in on second straight NBA scoring title

Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant is four days away from winning his second straight NBA scoring title.

Last year, he became the youngest scoring champ in league history. This year, he'll become the third-youngest.

There's been nary a peep as he approaches an astonishing achievement and, as we all know, Durant isn't about to toot his own horn.

Does Durant even glance at the scoring leaders chart throughout the season?

"If I told you I didn't, I'd be lying," he confessed with a smile.

This year's scoring race isn't over, and yet it is.

Heading into Friday night's home game against Denver, Durant was averaging 27.8 points, Miami's LeBron James was second at 26.7 per game and teammate Dwyane Wade third at 25.7.

If Durant keeps his scoring average intact during the last four games, James would have to average 49.3 ppg to catch him.

Durant would become the 12th player to repeat as scoring champ. Though that's not in the same stratosphere as Wilt Chamberlain or Michael Jordan, who won seven straight each, Durant is about to draw even with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant.

Durant is not claiming victory this season, but he already knows how it feels to be champ.

"Feels good," Durant said. "I just feel blessed to be put in this position."

Though Durant is down 2.3 points from last year's 30.1 winning clip, the Thunder's other top scoring averages have risen – Russell Westbrook is up 5.7 points to 21.8; James Harden is up 2.2 points to 12.1; Serge Ibaka is up 3.5 points to 9.8.
