Thunderstorms moving into central Oklahoma

Thunderstorms are tracking east across the state, bringing with them hail and heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to reach the Oklahoma City area between 6 and 7 p.m., Andrew Taylor, National Weather Service forecaster said.

Brief, heavy rain and frequent lightning is expected. There is also a possibility for hail, he said.

Quarter and half-dollar-sized hail was reported west of Lawton in Comanche County just before 5 p.m.

The front should push east, forming showers and storms into eastern Oklahoma overnight, the Weather Service reported, adding that a few showers may linger Tuesday morning east of Interstate 35.

Increased cloud cover and weak cold advection will result in somewhat cooler temperatures over the next few days, especially in northern Oklahoma.

Dry conditions are expected to prevail Wednesday through Friday, before another predicted storm system approaches over the weekend.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with occasional rain showers and scattered thunderstorms statewide. Temperatures will be cooler, with lows in the mid 40s in the Oklahoma Panhandle to the lower 60s in the southeast.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a chance of rain showers and scattered thunderstorms in west central and eastern Oklahoma. Highs will be in the 70s with lows in the 40s and 50s.

Skies will turn partly cloudy on Wednesday, but there will be a slight chance of rain showers in eastern Oklahoma before sunrise. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 40s and 50s.

Thursday and Friday will be mostly clear with highs in the 70s and 80s and lows in the 40s and 50s.
