Time isn't ticking for OSU football team, Gundy says

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Boone Pickens' $165 million donation to Oklahoma State's athletic program was a popular topic at Big 12 media day.

But another line of questions for Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy was the most interesting development.

Gundy, entering his second season, was asked whether his relationship with athletic director Mike Holder will buy him time to get the program turned around.

"I don't think I'll need to buy time," Gundy said. "I'm a graduate of Oklahoma State. What we do is important to me. I wouldn't want to buy time.

"What's important is President (David) Schmidly, Coach Holder, myself and our staff understand what's involved with where we're at as a team, where we're at as a program. I think we have a pretty good plan how to accomplish our goals and what direction we're going."

Because Holder won eight national titles as OSU's golf coach, Gundy said he picks Holder's brain on personnel matters.

"But you guys who spend time with Coach Holder realize he's not real big on being your buddy," Gundy said. "He and I are friends. We talk. But we don't hang out and eat dinner together.
