Time to look back and remember those 8 wins in 2005

The NCAA wants Oklahoma football fans to take a summer vacation. Remember the 2005 OU season? Well, it's time to vacate it. Those eight wins no longer exist, according to the punishment set down by the NCAA on Wednesday.

And what a season it was to forget.

The 2005 season featured a season-opening loss to TCU, a mid-game, on-campus explosion during the Kansas State game, a bizarre last-second defeat to Texas Tech and an injury to Adrian Peterson.

And that was just the bad news.

The eight wins were just as wild.

Read it today. It may be out of the record books soon.

Win No. 1: Sept. 10, 2005 — Oklahoma 31, Tulsa 15:

After losing its home opener to TCU, the Sooners booted quarterback Paul Thompson in favor of Rhett Bomar.

But Bomar didn't attempt a pass in the second half.

Win No. 2: Oct. 1, 2005 — Oklahoma 43, Kansas State 21:

The Sooners had to pass the ball in this one. Adrian Peterson headed to the sideline with an ankle injury, so Bomar had to lead the Sooners in rushing.

His fourth-quarter TD pass was the first for OU all year.

•Win No. 3: Oct. 15, 2005 — Oklahoma 19, Kansas 3:

The defense kept Kansas down, but the game wasn't sweat-free for Sooner fans until the final 10 minutes, when Bomar engineered a 92-yard drive and a TD to Malcolm Kelly.
