A Tinker Air Force Base airman accused of beating a 1-year-old boy left in his care entered a plea in the case Monday and avoided trial.
Gabriel Brian Solis, 31, of Del City, entered an Alford plea before Oklahoma County District Judge Cindy Truong.
Under an Alford plea, a defendant accepts a sentence for a crime while still asserting innocence.
Solis admitted in court papers that sufficient evidence exists for a jury to convict him.
He faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 30.
Had the case gone to trial, Solis' 8-year-old son was going to testify that his father injured the 1-year-old, prosecutors said in court papers.
Solis' wife, Elsa, pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of enabling child abuse and also faces up to life in prison when she is sentenced on the same day as her husband.
The couple were arrested in October 2010 after doctors found significant injuries on the child, whose mother was an airman deployed to Afghanistan, Oklahoma City police said.
