A Portland roofer makes a very good case for attic and roof venting in his recent blog post. Venting a roof and attic serves two purposes: It prevents moisture buildup (also known as "wet rot"), and it cools down the attic, which helps to keep the house cooler. Attic vent fans are a minor installation by a professional, and they are often solar powered. It could be worth it for you to have an attic vent fan installed if you want to keep your house cooler in the summertime.
