Just before Durant walked away, the camera catches him embrace Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder and Midwest City native Matt Kemp.
Even as he was in L.A., however, Durant was praising Oklahoma City in a series of tweets last Friday.
“Being in LA makes me love Oklahoma City so much more!!” Durant wrote before adding: “I love LA but just how quiet n lowkey Oklahoma City is fits me better plus there's no traffic lol”
Durant has been quoted numerous times saying he wants to play in Oklahoma City for as long as possible. When the magazine Oklahoma Today named him as the 2010 Oklahoman of the Year, Durant was quoted in the cover story as saying, “I'm happy I'm here. God has put me in a great place because it's the perfect place for me.”
Durant also has proved his commitment to Oklahoma. Last summer, Durant signed a five-year contract extension and specifically turned down a popular clause known as a player option, something that allows players to get out of their contracts and enter free agency a year earlier. The deal will now keep Durant with the Thunder through the 2015-16 season. Durant also recently closed on a $1.8 million home in the luxurious Gaillardia area.
Nonetheless, a certain segment of fans and media members seemingly refuse to believe Durant is happy in Oklahoma.
