NBA TV looks at the bond forged between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the residents of Moore following the massive May 20 tornado in the special “OKC Thunder: Heart of the City” at 6 p.m. Friday.
Superstar singer and song writer Toby Keith, a Moore native, narrates the inspirational story about the team's response to the tragedy, which included visiting victims after the tornado, hosting a team scrimmage in Moore and providing funds to rebuild outdoor basketball courts at several schools.
In this 30-minute NBA TV Originals special, Keith, whose mother and sister still reside in Moore, brings a personal touch to the story as he reflects on the impact the storm had on his family and the significance of the Thunder's commitment to the community.
Demonstrating its continued support to the city months after the tornado, the Thunder conducted a training camp practice at Westmoore High school on Oct. 13 as a sign that the Thunder would be there for the residents as they continued to get back on their feet. General manager Sam Presti and guard Russell Westbrook addressed the crowd.
