Toby Keith, perhaps best known to non-country audiences for his post-Sept. 11 song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," says he's a Democrat, and was impressed by the senator from Illinois.
Keith, an Oklahoma native, has said in the past that the 2002 song — which included lines aimed at the Taliban like "we lit up your world like the Fourth of July" — was more patriotic than pro-war.
Asked while promoting his new movie "Beer For My Horses" about the role of patriotism in the current presidential election, Keith replied: "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.
"So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things.
"So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat."

Toby release a new song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsm-wI5PGBE
"And if Toby, a country music superstar, supports Obama I say yeah because it does show that barriers, stereotypes, and foolish ideologies are being broken and dissolved and Obama is trully the catalyst of change. ONE AMERICA!!!! Buddy." Or, it just shows that Toby Keith is a registered Democrat who has decided to fall lock-step behind his party. I vote for Option B.
to be honest Jay, i would be very angry if Obama is elected. i would hope America has better morals than to elect him. personally, IF i could i would vote "W" again. i have a lot of respect for him and what he stands for.
K, you're a complete moron! "the racism that still exists"... is mainly in black people bringing up the past and democrats who want to keep it alive and kicking so that they actually have someone to listen to their crap. "best democratic candidate since Bill Clinton"... and just think, HE wasn't even a good candidate, so why bring him up? to those of you who keep bringing up "thousands of young men have died in Iraq"... fantastic! they VOLUNTEERED their service KNOWING they would be sent overseas... JUST LIKE EVERY SOLDIER TIMES PAST WHO DIED TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY WHAT IT IS TODAY DESPITE IDIOTS LIKE JFK, CLINTON, OBAMA... THE LIST OF LIBERAL HIPPIES GOES ON FOREVER. our country is great BECAUSE of what went on in the past and that includes the death of countless Americans that died for OUR country that the democrats fight so hard to destroy with their immoral ideals and liberal tree hugging crap. i used to like Toby Keith, but he's now up there with Matt Damon, George Clooney, Sean Penn and the rest of the traitors in this country. IF America wants a better tomorrow... vote republican!
This is too funny and most of the comments on here show the behind the scenes RACISM that still exists. I for one am not much of a country music fan, but am OU fan and can tolerate Toby. Obama represents what this country is and what it's original foundings were meant to be. And if Toby, a country music superstar, supports Obama I say yeah because it does show that barriers, stereotypes, and foolish ideologies are being broken and dissolved and Obama is trully the catalyst of change. ONE AMERICA!!!! Buddy
It was bad enought that Toby Keith ia a Sooner fan. Now he praises Obama and calls himself a Democrat. Now there is no reason to listen to his music. It's all fake. Toby is all screwed up with this one. He's all for the USA, and then praises the a guy who, arguably, is the most Marxist, pro communist presidential candidate we have ever had, and that includes those who have run on the Communist Party ticket. Toby needs to figure out who he is and run with it. Until he does, I cannot listen to him anymore. Damn shame.
"Your party had control of the ENTIRE government for about 6 years and, after all their huffin' and puffin' about abortion, what did they do about it? NOT A DAMN THING!" Gregory, here's some political education for you. A bill requires majority approval of both houses of Congress (and of course, signature by the President) to become a law. But for a vote to even be taken on a bill in the Senate, another vote has to be taken first--to shut off debate. That requires sixty votes, not a simple majority. Even at their peak of power, the Republicans did not have that many senators. Also, there are not five pro-life votes on the Supreme Court...just because Anthony Kennedy is more conservative than not doesn't mean he toes any sort of party line. So the Republicans didn't have the votes to pass any sort of federal limitations on abortion, nor did they have the votes on the Supreme Court to overturn or modify Roe v. Wade...which would, in any case, have required another case to come along, since they can't just interpret the law on a whim. But you just keep passing around that "you had total control for six years and you didn't do very much of anything" line. People who understand how the system works will just keep laughing at you. (Sadly, there are more of you than there are of us.)
Gail you mentioned the abortion issue in your first post. You are being played like a fiddle. Your party had control of the ENTIRE government for about 6 years and, after all their huffin' and puffin' about abortion, what did they do about it? NOT A DAMN THING! It's an emotional wedge issue designed to keep you voting for them... Make sure to tune your strings. Go Non-Incumbents!! Go USA!
Your article just said 21 days. I did not do the math but if I'm not wrong, 3,649 million = 3.6 million. I've been away from schools for 50 years though so new math may have changed things. LOL! (:
WOW! What a difference. The article you gave the site to (if anyone else is reading) said the high estimates of 200-400 billion barrels came from the Pittman/Price/LeFever study and were if somehow the tight formations could possibly be produced. The U.S. wastes about 7.5 billion barrels per year so recoverable oil with present technology would only produce 21 DAYS of U.S. use over the life of the wells. My dad's grandfather had a well that produced 200 barrels per day for the first month. By the end of the first year it was down to 10 then lucky to produce 1. If the price was not $100 it would be plugged. An Oklahoma well producing 10 per day after 5 years is an exceptionally good well and that is the best that can be expected from the average in the Bakken field where one of my cousins worked for about 40 years as a tool pusher.
See how the internut argues. I saw a BUNCH of articles ranging from 163 BILLION barrels up to 500 Billion. None were as small as to be in the millions. I'll look yours up also.
Wrong. Using 2006 US imports and consumption for comparison, the Bakken undiscovered resource of 3,649 million barrels of oil, if subsequently discovered and fully developed, would provide us with the equivalent of six months of oil consumption or 10 months of imports, spread over 20 or more years. In reality, the reserves developed are likely to be many times smaller than this value. Source:http://www.theoildrum.com/node/3868
The internut articles estimates for the Bakken field in Montana and N.D. range up to half a trillion barrels. At our use (your figures) of 21 million barrels per day that will last far longer than I will. Combine that with the rest of the world's production and I won't worry about my grandson because I figure technology will increase enough in his lifetime that oil may lose much of it's value. I believe food and water shortages are more of a threat.
I found an estimated 900 years supply at current use of natural gas on the internut. I use a synthetic oil (whatever that is) for lubrication in my truck. It now has 164,000 miles and I change at 20,000 miles, no use and as clean as when I put it in. (Toyota) Same thing with my old Nissan car. It makes me wonder why we are so dependent on oil. By the way, I tried to stay with the big 3 U.S. companies but found mine are assembled in the U.S. and even the big 3 had foreign parts. I found I couldn't "buy American".
Floyd - The US uses 21 million barrels a day. We're still essentially putting a very small band aid on an enormous problem with "drill here, drill now". It's simply not a feasible long term solution for either short term gasoline prices or the nation's energy strategy.
Jeff, your figure for land the "country owns" may be correct. But the private land such as the farmers in North Dakota own is an entirely different story. Even ten years ago there was only a rig or so that was capable of drilling 2 miles deep. I can't remember the rigs name that took about 2 dozen trucks to move it from Okla. north. We did not have the technology until the last few years to get the oil out of the shale such as N.D. has. Now the N.D. field alone is expected to produce at least 300,000 barrels, My figures are probably too conservative. It is probably more like 3,000,000. I gave the oil report to someone and they haven't returned it. By now it has probably been posted on the internut.
Everyone wants to talk about why not to vote for Obama, but no one wants to offer a good reason to vote for McSame. All the right has is its very effective Attack Machine, and "drill more". And for the record, even if America drilled on every single inch of land the country owns, it would only increase production by 3%. The US currently uses 25% of the entire oil production. So you do the math - drill here, drill now is not a long term solution nor barely a short term solution.
Now what do I do? I see that Obama has picked Biden for his running mate and it may be McCain will pick Lieberman. To me both of them have considerable experience, but they seem to agree on most issues. I would not be surprised if the vice Pres. will become Pres. because McCain may die of old age and I think there enough radical extreme bigots to assassinate Obama. I most certainly hope not because what happened after Rodney King was beaten would not amount to more than a playground fist fight between two six year olds by comparison. Wasn't it Davy Crockett who said,"Be sure you're right, then go ahead."? I'll let you youngsters decide since I don't think I'll live that much longer to see the outcome.
All of you armchair critics should tend to your own gardens. I'm sure there are enough weeds there to keep you busy and not worrying so much about what's ahead no matter who gets elected.
Jonathon, you don't know what you're talking about. Defense planning and spending takes several years to implement. We had plenty of military to attack Iraq, that was Clinton military, not Bush, Bush hadn't been in office long enough. The surplus came from good management by the Clinton administration. Besideds, the consensus is around the world that the US spends far too much on military. But, all of you hawks would never buy that. The problem in Iraq has been manpower. No one wants to enlist with Bush around. Bush cut military pay first thing after he took office. But, I'm sure that was Clintons fault.
While I don't agree with his opinion of Obama, the bottom line to all this is WHO CARES? His vote counts just as much as the rest of ours do. It's OK not to buy his records or eat at his restaurant if you think it will make you feel better (exercise your right!) I don't like either option for President but really can't vote for a guy who wants to punish me for trying to make more money. The tax code is so screwed up anyway, that needs to be fixed. Everyone go checkout www.fairtax.org. Chances are, unless you are an accountant or work for the IRS you will like it... NObama and McCAin't. What a couple of great options we end up with... I think I'll have a beer with my horse!
BTW...rob, there may have been a surplus when Bush took office because Clinton stripped national defense of funds (yep real smart move...look where that got us). Of course, Bush also inherited a recession, terrorist attacks, energy debacle, etc.
Xerves, democrats spending others money, are you kidding. When your idiot took office there was a huge surplus and he spent it all. Even the leader of your party, oxycontin Limbaugh says Bush is a bigger spender than Clinton. So peddle your spend crap somewhere else. You may like supporting Halliburton through your taxes, I don't.
Gail, there is so much propaganda in that article it is not even funny, it is just a bunch of garbage, the republican party of today is nothing like they were 40-50 years ago, so to say that anything regarding the two parties is a stupid argument, whoever wrote this is playing on peoples ignorance.
Blake, the right is just trying to hang their hat on something and experience is the only thing their little brain can come up with. George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter all went from the State House to the White House. Their inexperience didn't hurt any of them. Obama has national experience, none of the Presidents I mentioned had that. Toby, keep up the good work here in Oklahoma with all of the good charitable work you do. You couldn't be a Republican, you're not selfish enough.
if you are going to post an article like that you should have been prepared for to someone point out the factual errors, and it is not an opinion that the two parties are nothing like the were in 1854 like the article states, it is a fact
Republicans selfish? HA! That's funny because there's research that shows just the opposite. Dems are tight with their money but have no problem spending the taxpayer dollar!
i have made no such comments to your, i have called you no names, i simply made a comment on the article you wrote, so sorry to open the crazy box up, but the first sign it was crap should have been that the article was written by the BLACK REPUBLICAN, that's an oxymoron if i have ever heard one, so please don't call people names.

Being raised in the South around "Southern Democrats", I found this article very interesting.
I don't understand the argument that he is inexperienced, George Bush, not W but his father had all the experience in the world and was by all accounts not a very good president, I know a lot of people in Oklahoma don't like him, but Bill Clinton did not have a ton of experience and was a good president, i am basing this on his 65% approval rating when he left office, his financial surplus, and the stability of economy. I think that someone who hasn't been a part of the political system as long is a good thing, he hasn't been as jaded or corrupt by the system. But I know I will not be voting for someone who doesn't even know how many houses he has (its 8 by the way), believes that you have to have $5 mil to be rich and has been a politician since 1982. That is what all the experience gets you, being so detached from the people you represent.
Maybe Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Liarly will open an OKC restaurant for you poor whining and upset lock-step right-wingers! Rush might even fill your prescriptions and Bill could talk dirty to you. It won't need any mirrors since you are all alike anyway.
M if you are going to post about a candidate, at least espouse information not perpetuated by fearful right wing zealots. A person's religion or lack thereof is not a reliable basis for electing a president. Just because somebody is a man of God (as Obama is, you should accept the man's religion), one's prominence in a religion should not be the basis for a character judgement. Are we to believe that all Catholic priests have as much or more moral fiber than McCain or Obama? These are men that have been raised for years on the tenets of Christianity, yet as we have seen in the news, many are certainly far from perfect. I understand your contention on the other points you have there, you have a right to believe what you want to believe. If you are going to espouse knowledge, at least come real with it.
I love Toby, but I just don't think its in our best interest to elect a man, raised Muslim, President of the USA. I'm also not ready to accept socialism, unprecedented inexperience, or someone who supports late term infant murder. However, Obama is probably the best teleprompt reader I've ever seen. May God continue to Bless America!
What people fail to understand is that when you are a nation that is TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, you should probably start paying your bills instead of incessantly borrowing money from a nation like China. Conservatives speak of smaller government, smaller budgets and less taxes but their actions over the last eight years have expanded the government, expanded budgets exponentially, oh but they did lower taxes for rich people and corporations who need no such tax break. As a responsible citizen, you have to think beyond your little niche, think of what is better for the country. The low tax rates of the last eight years, particularly those of the upooer echelon of society, have not helped our country. Our debt has only risen as our president became the only president to lower taxes during an ongoing war. Not the smartest decision, to say the least. Lastly, don't knock Toby Keith for his opinions. You should applaud him for being involved in the political process. I'm not going to agree with everyone on anything, I'm certain my opinions are pretty wild to some people. However, regardless of what someone says, we as American citizens should always RESPECT their right to say what they feel. Just as we can come here and spout off nonsense at a dime a dozen, so can those in our society who are more visible and out in the public.
John, Norman. My complaints about the care my Dad received at the Norman Veterans Center helped launch the recent investigation into the care provided by the center. Why don't you sit back on your pointed finger, take a powder and do something constructive.
Why are none of you rightious republicans not demanding an accounting by Cole, Coburn and Inhoffe on the mold at Fort Sill where wounded troops are getting care? Instead of bitching at Toby start bitchin about the indifference of these so called supporters of the troops. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
I guess it is all in one's point of view, Blake. Your post sounds like crap to me as does all of the "propaganda" coming from the Demogogs. To each their own. I'm still a Repub, Neocon or whatever else you spout off and call me. Sticks and stones... you know the rest. By the way, I'm far from ignorant but in your shortsighted, full-of-yourself narrowmindedness, you choose not to accept that a person with a different point of view could be an intelligent, hard working female who doesn't ask the government for a damn thing but to give me back my tax refund once a year. Have a great weekend. Go McCain!!
I do not play, therefore I am not played, Gregory. I stand for what I believe and make no apologies. I plan to vote for John McCain because I think he is the best man for the job. Jimmy Carter was the only democrat I ever voted for. Enough said.
You guys are trippin'. Heck it just an opinion, like it or not! There are good and bad things about every candidate and it will always be so. As long as our next president is not retarded, I will be happpy. Boomer Sooner!
It is so appalling that so many are crucifying one individual, celebrity or not, for speaking his opinion. If Toby Keith had made some positive statements about John McCain these people would have been praising him for speaking out. But because he says something positive about a Democrat then Toby suddenly becomes an ignorant and un-American celebrity? Now THAT's un-American.
Regarding giving "fact based answers"...I guess Gail isn't voting then....:D Gail, how about this, I'll wager you $10K that, if McCain is elected, he will make nil attempt to end abortion! When are you going to understand that you are being "played", have been "played" and will continue to be "played", as the fiscal NEOCONs (See Cheney, Limpbaugh, Coulter..etc) could care less about abortion and more about you voting for them. Therefore, they need and will ALWAYS need a wedge issue for you to keep voting for them. How anyone can say they are "pro-lfe" and "pro-war" in the same sentence is beyond me. But, what's really said is that you ppl continue to buy into it. CONs had the government in their hands for 6 years in this decade. Anything happen regarding abortion?
Greg, There is so much garbage written as truth on the interNUT, even when we hear a candidate for ourselves, if it is on TV, with all the high tech, we have no proof what we see is real.
You do NOT speak for me David in Norman. Your patriotic duty and honor is your business. My patriotic duty is to vote for the man that I believe is best qualified for the position of President. I cannot vote for anyone who is pro-choice and cannot give a fact-based answer.
Toby is a bonehead, wish he stop speking for Ok., his songs are trite commerial grade pablum and I've heard he's a total johnson to everyman, he nails this one though. The rich old white guys have had their run. Our great land is facing many difficult challanges, and an old white guy who thinks times are fine and that we should remain as unwanted occupiers of a Muslim country ain't the answer. And yes, the country needs to start paying it's bills. Bush has written enough ious to the People's Republic of China. An I the only American that finds that extremely troublesome- not a fan of the country personally. It's easy to pander to the anti-gov, anti-tax zealots by claiming the oppostion is going to raise your taxes. Fact is, in a civilized society a certain level of government spending is obliged. Citizens seeing a tax increase are mostly those who won't much notice. It's our patriotic duty and honor.
Just vote! It is private and your right as an American. Nobody cares about any ones opinion so keep them to yourself. One can find fault in every canididate, President, senator, etc. etc. just vote. Oh, just ask the first Mrs. McCain whom we should vote for this time. It might be interesting to know her answer. And if Ronnie were alive, he would also tell you his opinion.
Nobody's perfect. If McCain is elected no telling what worms will crawl out of the closet. One doesn't live 71 years without having done something that can be construed as immoral or sinful by someone. If I were to run for president, my opponents would have a field day.
Judie, My sister's father-in-law told me his best friend was Pretty Boy Floyd's son. He said Floyd's funeral was the highest attended in the town's history. (Wilberton, Okla.???) I could look it up to be certain. Anyhow, it is like the song, the more they run my name down, the more my price goes up. Look at all these celebrities that don't have a chance until they are notorious. Even Kato Kaelin had his 15 seconds of fame as a nobody. How about John Bobbitt after his bob job? This might give Toby enough publicity to make his movie a box office smash hit. I doubt if anyone will change their vote from what Toby said. On this paper's poll it was asked if famous people's opinion's change your mind and it doesn't seem to matter.
I love my fellow Okies as a whole; most of you are very caring and considerate, but you can also be the most ignorant when it comes to politics. To deny anyone the right to an opinion and to boycott him or his business because it doesn't agree with yours is just plain stupid and childish. I once told a friend who was boycotting Jane Fonda that it was hurting Fonda. Her husband was one of the worst racists I've ever known, but he is an excellent electrician. I asked her if I should boycott her husband and if I did who would it hurt worst, me or him. I would have to settle for a second-class electrician. I don't really see that much difference in either of the candidates. I don't expect either one will change my life much. I'm 67 years old and no president yet has made much of an impact on my life. As long as I have my family, I really don't care.
Did Toby point out any thing concrete about Obama? Toby said it was "beautiful" when Obama went on the Afghn/Irq tour and then said "some really nice things". That's what Toby is basing his political decisions on????? Some "really nice" things??? Appearances, no substance. Fail.
Rob,Yukon said his taxes will go way up if Obama is elected. I had read that elseware and like the saying goes,"I only know what I read", so if that isn't correct? Anyhow, Toby and Oprah both seem to favor huge tax increases as it seems anyone voting for Obama wants, IF that is correct, so why don't they just give millions to less fortunate so it will leave we poor people with some money? I think if I can survive on less than a $ million for the rest of my life, allowing they are younger than me, they could live quite well on $5 million and give the rest away. I don't think that would be unfair. I suppose most of us worked harder than the 2 of them put together.

I thought Toby wasn't going to smoke anymore of Willie's weed! What do you expect when he became a movie producer. I talked to Toby one time when he was just getting known...most arrogant, conceited person I've had the lack of pleasure to meet.
one more thing - this is our fault. we as a poeple prefer to not vote and not to get involved in the political process; content to leave the selectiing up to the minority of people who do get out and participate in the process. most Americans would rather let someone else make the decision for them, then bitch about whoever gets elected(Repub or Dem).
let's face it - voting for either of the main presidential candidates will be a nose holder. both are the runts of the litter. the bottom line is our political parties have failed us - they continue to send for our approval, substandard presidential candidates. instead of complaining about this or that candidate, we should be complaing about the process and the party mechanisms that put these two bozos in line for the Presidency. it's time - past time - to take a good look at how we select a president. the current system isn't working.
Change We Can Believe In!! Right? A very vague, open ended statement. Change for better or worse is more like it. The only change we're likely to see with sunrise "O" is the change left in our sofa cushions. An Obama-nation is an abomination!
This looks like an economic move for TK to me. This is his best chance to transition from the country music charts to the urban/pop music charts. The income potential in pop music is about 10 times that in country music. And it might explain why he no longer looks or acts like the country boy he professes to be.
Concerned, Central Oklahoma - Aug 20, 2008 11:22 AM
Oh, and read the article again, where does it say that Toby is voting for Obama? no where, all he said is "he came back and said some really nice things."
oh shut it, if you TK would have said the exact same thing about McCain you all would be happy. just b/c he doesn't agree with you, you shun him. That is so American --- NOT!
Toby said,"And I think he's the best Democratic candidate..." He didn't mention the republicans that I've seen. Anyhow, not in the above article. I just wonder what does Obama want to change. I haven't heard.
Another thing.......many of you Obama supporters keep saying "listen to Obama, read whats on his website." etc, etc, etc........I have! and I still have no idea what he's saying. Sure I hear the words, I'm educated, I know what the words mean, but it's all fluff. There is no substance to what he is saying. He makes happy-feel-good statements and they are so general. He isn't specific, except when he talks about raising taxes. My point is Obama dances around every topic and doesn't get specific. Think about this (not that Toby Keith cares) Obama will raise your taxes.........Right now my wife and I are taxed approximately $9000.00 per year. Under Obama's plan we will be taxed approximately $16,000.00 per year. Get ready.....if elected Obama will take money out of your pocket! But wait.........if we keep our tires inflated properly and get regular oil changes and maintenance on our cars we will make that up in gas savings.......YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toby, I'm disappointed in you. I can't believe you really think Obama is the best candidate since Bill Clinton????? Are you kidding me. I thought you were much more conservative than that. I hope Mccain crushes Obama in November.

Being raised in the South around "Southern Democrats", I found this article very interesting.
