Today, schools in Edmond are offering opportunities for students to jumpstart their future careers so high school students can begin their professions before they receive their diplomas.

Edmond Santa Fe senior Sadie Rosenthal is involved in the school’s Professional Internship Program. Rosenthal decided to enroll when she became interested in youth ministry and because the internship would look good on her resume.

“This internship will help me gain experience and will help people to take me seriously as a professional,” Rosenthal said.

Her internship site, Memorial Road Church of Christ, is also her church. Rosenthal works with Philip Brookman, one of the youth ministers of the congregation.

With her mentor, Rosenthal was able to attend a national youth ministry convention in St. Louis last fall, something that students normally wouldn’t have access to.

“I got to meet people that I wouldn’t have ever come into contact with through this internship program,” Rosenthal said.

Rosenthal’s internship is in place of her fifth and sixth hours at school. A normal day at her internship site consists of helping organize classes, planning Youth Group events and doing other tasks.
