Too warm in Edmond to capture Christmas spirit yet

It may have caught you by surprise. I know it did me. Downtown Edmond’s Christmas lights are already up and glowing.

Kelly Fuller, assistant to the city manager, said the lights actually went up about mid-October.

Those who were at Trick or Treat on the Street on Saturday were the first to notice the lights were on.

I’m all for seasonal decorations, but I haven’t even had time to take the lights down off the house from last year. Too many leaves are in the way right now.

In the past few years in Edmond, it seems we’ve gone from summer to winter within a few days. But if this beautiful fall weather continues, it’s going to be hard for me to get into the holiday spirit until a little later.

Not that I’m a Scrooge when it comes to all things Christmas, I just love this current weather.

I can picture Saint Nick going outside, blowing the leaves in his yard into the streets, like some of us do, then going inside to watch a football game.

How can I get into a holiday mood? For goodness sakes, Halloween candy is still on the shelves at 50 percent off. But soon it will be replaced with tinsel and wreaths and ornaments and the stores will smell like cinnamon.

Then, I’ll be taken back to a warmer, kinder, more innocent time of peace on Earth, goodwill to all men. To every thing there is a season.

Are you kidding? "soon it will be replaced with tinsel and wreaths and ornaments and the stores will smell like cinnamon"
Christmas stuff has been out since September! They put it out at the same time they put out Halloween. I hate they shove the holiday down our throats, I can hardly stand going into stores because they put it out so early. One holiday at a time, Halloween, Thanksgiving THEN Christmas.
The start of the Christmas season use to be signaled by Thanksgiving not August.
