Top five NBA locker room 'don'ts'

Not all NBA locker rooms are the same. But when it comes to locker room etiquette, there's a general list of unwritten rules regarding what to not do. Here are the top five “Don'ts”

Do not enter an opposing team's locker room

“This is our domain,” said Toronto forward John Salmons. “You never know what could be on the (dry erase) board, or what information could be around. So it's just more of a respect thing.”

Do not request an opposing player's autograph

“Getting guys shoes, that used to be a big one back in the late 90s,” said Toronto coach Dwane Casey. “Like Michael Jordan or a star player giving out his shoes, or sending the ball boy to get you signed shoes. That's a stretch. Why would you need another player's shoes?”

Do not disrespect the coach

Pretty self-explanatory.

Do not sit at a player's locker

This has become a Thunder-specific rule in recent years. Russell Westbrook has taken exception to multiple reporters sitting at vacant lockers after Thunder games. Many other teams regularly allow reporters to sit at unoccupied lockers to conduct interviews.

Do not fight

“Verbal altercations are OK,” said Toronto forward Patrick Patterson. “In heat-of-the-moment situations, it's all right to let out what's on your mind, but fist fighting, putting your hands on somebody, no. You never want to lay hands on somebody.”
