Tornado watch continues for metro, central and western Oklahoma

A tornado warning for Roger Mills County was allowed to expire, but a tornado watch remains in effect for 22 Oklahoma counties until 5 a.m.

The counties are Alfalfa, Blaine, Canadian, Creek, Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grant, Harper, Kay, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, Major, Noble, Oklahoma, Osage, Pawnee, Payne, Woods and Woodward.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for eastern Blaine, northern Canadian, southeastern Harper, Kingfisher, western Logan, northeastern Woods and northern Woodward counties until midnight. A severe thunderstorm warning is also in effect for northern Osage County until 11:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service has not reported any tornado touchdowns in the state.

One man in the Cheyenne area reported lightning that started grass fire, followed by golf ball to tennis ball size hail, then high wind and torrential rain that put out the fires. He also reported seeing a funnel cloud, and damage to a truck, trees, windows and two barns.

Several tree limbs near Hammon in Roger Mills County were downed by high winds.

Most areas in central western Oklahoma were reporting hail, including ground coverings near Sweetwater in Roger Mills County and near Catesby in Ellis County.

The weather service reported baseball-sized hail a mile north of Strong City in Roger Mills County, egg-sized hail a mile northeast of Catesby in Ellis County and quarter-sized hail elsewhere in Roger Mills, Harper, Ellis and Dewey counties.

The weather service also reported that high winds downed tree limbs two miles west-northwest of Hammon in Roger Mills County.

The Oklahoma Mesonet reported about 1 1/2 inches of rain fell from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in Putnam in Dewey County. No other state location on the Mesonet has received more than a quarter of an inch.
