It was tough day for Oklahoma high school golfers who competed in the local U.S. Open qualifier at the par 71 Oklahoma Golf and Country Club Monday. None of the nine high school players who competed made the cut. The lowest score was a 2-over par 73 from Edmond Santa Fe's Dillon Rust. Four other golfers, including Jenks freshman Colton Staggs and Edmond North senior Geoff Shaw, shot 75.

"It was just a tough, windy day,” said Carl Albert sophomore Talor Gooch, who shot a 77 Monday, and won the Class 5A state tournament at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore last week. "It was just one of those days when nothing was going my way. It wasn't going well for many of the high school players.”

Edmond North senior Will Kropp advanced to the sectional after shooting a 68 at the par 70 Tulsa Country Club last year, but did not compete in this year's local qualifier. Kropp said the field was already full when he tried to apply.
