A veterans parade wound through downtown Friday, featuring the unfurling of a replica 46-star U.S. flag — representing the state's place in the union. Events today include a statehood stroll and a Centennial Militia Ball in the newly opened Route 66 Interpretive Center.

Ruth Ann Feuquay was in town Friday to witness the unfurling of the flag, a replica of one made by her grandmother in 1906. Jence Cornelia Holland Feuquay made the flag — perhaps the first in the nation to sport a 46th star — to commemorate Congress's passing of the Enabling Act, which paved the way for Oklahoma to become the 46th state.

"She and my grandfather both made the land run into Chandler and they were very active in all things politics,” Feuquay said. "They worked so hard for statehood.”

Her grandfather died about five days before statehood in 1907, Feuquay said, but her grandmother went on to become a suffragette, fighting for women's voting rights.

During Friday's veterans' parade, Feuquay and her daughter, Priscilla Turbeville, hung the 46-star replica flag from the upstairs window of what once was the
