Town will honor its heroes, character Published: April 15, 2013

WOODWARD -- Six people died and damage to homes and property was extensive, but it could have been much worse a year ago when a tornado slammed into this city.

On April 22, Woodward will host "Tornado Recovery Tribute: Recognizing a Community of Heroes" at the Woodward Conference Center.

The Enid News & Eagle reports that the city will be honoring those who helped throughout the event aftermath and recovery.

It will be a time also to commemorate the overall character of the city.

Woodward residents know full well about tornadoes and the devastation they cause. More than 100 people died in 1947 when a tornado hit in the Texas panhandle, rumbled through Woodward and remained on the ground into Kansas.
