A traffic check in Wagoner spun out of control last week, leaving a police officer with a broken jaw and a Collinsville man in jail, authorities said.

Justin Scott Perigo, 24, was being held Monday in the Wagoner County jail on $100,000 bail on complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, aggravated assault and battery, consuming or inhaling intoxicants in a public place, obstructing an officer and use of an offensive weapon during a felony.

Wagoner County sheriff’s deputy Paul Mader suffered a broken jaw in the Aug. 7 fight, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.

According to an arrest affidavit, Perigo became agitated after Mader requested to see the man’s driver’s license. The two got into a scuffle where Mader was hit in the face and kicked by Perigo, the affidavit states.

In an unrelated case, in July 2011, Perigo pleaded guilty to assault and battery and public intoxication and received a one-year suspended sentence. He was also ordered to attend a domestic violence program. has disabled the comments for this article.
