Remember, the new Crosstown Expressway is just that: new. There will be tweaking.
Don, now that we have a spectacular drive through town on the new I-40, are you embarrassed as I am with the “black hole” through much of the new highway? What is the problem with the lighting? Thanks
No embarrassment for me, Jerry. I'm a fan of lighting that is necessary, but not overdone.
Anyway ... Here's a response from the people who are closest to that project.
“There are lights installed now along most of the I-40 Crosstown corridor ... from the I-235 junction west to near Penn,” said Brenda Perry, of the state Transportation Department.
“As is customary, the city took over maintenance duties of these lights once they were completed. In checking into (Jerry's) concern, our engineers noticed there are some bulbs out in this area and have alerted the City of OKC.
“There is another section of the I-40 Crosstown in which the lights are not yet complete ... from near Penn west to the I-44 junction. Lights are included as part of the construction currently under way in this area, however it's estimated to be another month or two before the lights in this area are complete.
“Drivers are asked to remain alert to workers and equipment along the I-40 Crosstown near downtown Oklahoma City. Lane closures are continually changing so drivers need to locate temporary alternate routes early. Daily lane closures are noted in the traffic advisory section of www.okladot.state.ok.us/newsmedia/traffic-advisory.htm. Plan ahead for extra travel time, especially during peak traffic hours.”
So you did good in calling this to their attention, Jerry, and you got a heads-up on what's ahead. Everybody wins.
By the way ...
I anticipated this question might be coming after the expansion work on the off-ramp to Waterloo Road from Interstate 35 the past couple of years. Honestly, I expected it to come sooner.
Does ODOT have any plans for a northern four lane divided highway loop up around Waterloo Road that would connect I-35 to (State) Highway 74?
There are no such plans at this time, Kevin.
And this one ...
I was just curious if you knew or could ask what they are doing on the Kilpatrick Turnpike from I-40 north. I see them putting a strip of asphalt on the inside lane in the median but cannot figure out what the purpose is.
Crews have been installing cable barriers, Kelly.
Enjoy your week and drive safely.
