If you have questions, ask for answers. Here's a gentleman who has a few questions about projects in Edmond.
I like the street widenings with medians which have adequate turn lanes, like Kelly from 15th Street to 33rd Street in Edmond, and 15th Street Edmond from the railroad (tracks) to Santa Fe. Also, the wider streets with a center turn lane like Santa Fe from the Kilpatrick (Turnpike) to 164th and Danforth from Chowning to Bryant. Does the City of Edmond have any plans to widen Danforth from Chowning west to Santa Fe (which would straighten out the offset at Fretz, and get a left turn lane from eastbound Danforth to Thomas)? Also, would there be any plans to widen Edmond Road from Fretz to Santa Fe (which would straighten out the offset at Kelly)?
You've been saving up, Fred. But that's no problem.
The man with the answers at the ready for those questions is Edmond's traffic planner, Tom Minnick.
Here's what he has for you:
“The city has under design contract a widening (project) on Danforth from the (Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway) tracks west to approximately 500 feet west of Fretz, and on Thomas from Danforth to Covell,” Minnick said. “This is in front of the Edmond North High School.”
As he notes, Thomas runs north/south on the east side of the high school.
“Part of the improvements will include an eastbound left turn at the intersection of Danforth and Thomas.
“We will also be constructing a bus ‘turnout' on the south side of Danforth, west of Fretz. Buses will be able to pull off Danforth and out of the way from other traffic as they load/unload passengers at the bus stop. The city will apply for federal funds later this year for future construction.”
As for your question about Edmond Road:
“Edmond Road, (from) Broadway to the west city limits (2.25 miles), is listed in the Transportation Plan to be widened to a four-lane, divided (roadway). However, there are no design or construction funds available at this time for this project”
By the way ...
If you haven't seen the extensive project done on N Kelly, between Danforth and Covell, take a drive. It's impressive. Same with that along Covell northeast of there.
It may have caused some grumbling during the construction phase, but the inconvenience certainly has paid off.
Enjoy your week and drive safely.
