Traffic Talk: Make a resolution to fix a driving habit

Don Gammill: Here are some 2014 resolutions from drivers who would like to change some habits relating to transportation.

With 2013 in the rearview mirror and 2014 straight ahead, it's time to check a special road map. It's one that readers have designed relating to their intended destinations.

These are resolutions — target areas they would like hit by changing their habits relating to transportation. Some appear fairly easy to reach; others will take more time. But with a little determination and some perseverance, they just might be reachable.

Best of luck to all as they travel onward.

Mike writes that his No. 1 resolution is to be more aware of speed limits.

“I have a bad habit of not paying close enough attention to the signs,” he says. “I was reminded of that a couple of times this year. Speeding tickets can be expensive.”

Break that habit now and next year could be a financial gain, Mike.

Jack has high on his list being more patient at railroad crossings.

“I nearly got plowed by a train because I started to go around a railroad crossing arm,” he said. “Luckily, the guy on the horn saw me and scared me back to reality. Won't be doing that again.”

Let's hope that experience really did get his attention.

The Candy Man says his top resolution for the coming year is to stop — or at least reduce the number of — arguments with airline personnel. He didn't give many details, but noted that as a frequent flier, he had had his share of problems with rescheduled flights, lost luggage, etc.
