Traffic Talk: ‘Temporary’ change makes NW 164 and Pennsylvania intersection a four-way stop

Don Gammill: Oklahoma City road-widening project includes some inconvenience to motorists — for now.

His information was spot on. The city soon sent out this news release:

“The intersection at NW 164 and Pennsylvania Avenue has been temporarily changed to a four-way stop as part of a street-widening project. Travelers are advised to find alternate routes, such as Western Avenue or Santa Fe Avenue, to avoid long wait times.”

That most assuredly won’t be popular with many who drive that route.

But here’s the second part of the release — how long the change should last:

“The four-way stop is estimated to be in place until summer 2013.”

It’s going to be a while.

By the way...

The road-widening is being done at a cost of $287 million and is funded from the 2000 General Obligation Bond Authorization.

Remember: Progress takes time and money.
