Ravens, 49ers deliver a super Super Bowl

The days of dud Super Bowls are gone. The Ravens' 34-31 survival of the 49ers was another classic.

I know you young'ns don't have any idea what I'm talking about, but there was a time when the Super Bowl was a dud more often than not.

Those times are gone. The Ravens' 34-31 survival of the 49ers was another classic. Here's what I saw:

* Welcome to the superstar club, Joe Flacco. Hope it treats you well.

* Career playoff record for Dan Marino: 8-10. Fran Tarkenton: 6-4. Bob Griese 6-5. Peyton Manning 9-11. Flacco: 9-4.

* About the time CBS' Bill Cowher suggested Jim Harbaugh consider inserting Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick turned into Superman again.

What a game for Kaepernick: 16 of 28, 302 yards and a touchdown passing, plus 62 yards on seven carries and a TD. His star did not wane.

* A 34-minute power-outage delay? The happiest man in America was Jerry Jones. The Arlington ticket fiasco from two years ago has company.

* CBS' inferior production was on full display during the outage. NBC and FOX have professionals on the sidelines working their games. CBS had to turn to Steve Tasker, who can't speak that well about football, something he knows about, much less something he doesn't.

* The Harbaugh brothers clearly are more alike than different. John is calmer than Jim, but that doesn't mean John is reserved. He's a little on the fiery side himself, as when he reamed out that NFL executive during the outage.

* Loved the deliberate safety by the Ravens. Great play by punter Sam Koch, running off eight seconds along the back of the end zone. He seemed to know where he was. Step out of the end zone early, and the 49ers could have had time for a snap.

* I didn't even mind the Ravens' fake field goal, which failed but backed up the 49ers inside their own 10-yard line and led to Baltimore points anyway.

How's that for showing confidence in your kickers and punters? John Harbaugh had them both run with the football in crucial situations.
