Transatlantic linebacker: OU commitment Tom Wort originally hails from England

You've only been in Texas for a couple of years, but you must be familiar with the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry. What's it like living just down the road from Austin, but going up to Norman?

A lot of Texas fans here give me a hard time. I'm really looking forward to going to the game. It's become bigger to me since I committed. I know a lot more about OU's program. I can't wait to go to the game in October. I've never been before.

What did you like about Oklahoma?

After the season, coach (Caniford) sent my highlight videos to schools. I wasn't expecting much. Maryland offered me first, but my second offer was from Oklahoma. They were the first to take interest in me. I got a real good feel, that they were the first who thought I had the potential to play for them. I visited LSU, OU and Texas A&M. But Oklahoma was everything I was looking for.

What do you think of coach (Brent) Venables?

He's a great guy. Once I got there to campus, he never left my side. I think I can learn from him. He's kind of young and we kind of clicked.

Are you familiar with the quality of linebackers OU has developed?

Yeah, I didn't know a whole lot about the program, but when I was starting to get recruited I learned a lot about the program, guys like Rocky (Calmus) and Teddy Lehman and Curtis Lofton.

OU needs a lot of linebackers, evidenced by the fact they're bringing in four other linebackers. What's your thoughts on that?

I have mixed feelings about that. It's nothing I'm really worried about. Wherever I go I'm going to have to compete for a spot. I see the numbers compared with other schools and they are kind of thin. I'm just going to go up there and do my thing, and if I'm good enough to play, I'll play.

Do you know any other commitments in this class?

Yeah, when I was up there I hung out with Justin Chaisson. I've been talking with him a lot. Drew Allen, the quarterback, I played against him last year. Jaydan Bird, I talk with him a lot. Marcus Trice, too.

What did you think about Allen?

He's a great quarterback. He's real talented. I'm happy he's going to OU.

What do you think about OU so far?

I've been watching every game. They're real impressive. I wish I was a part of it this year. I can't wait to get up there in January.

So you're going to enroll early?

Yeah, I'm graduating here in December so I can get up there in January.

You had two interception returns for touchdowns in the opener. That must have been fun.

That was a lot of fun. Just got a pick on a screen. Another one, we got good pressure on the quarterback and he just threw it. I took them both in.

Do you get to watch any Premier League?

No, not really. It's hard to watch here. I watch the England team when I can. But I like watching college football and pro football.

What's your favorite English food?

Probably fish and chips.

What about your favorite food here?

Steak. The steak is really good in Texas.
