Trash blowing from transfer station trucks troubles Edmond man

Trash blowing from trucks hauling trash from the Edmond Transfer Station continues to upset Edmond resident Ernie Schultz. The owners and contractors promise they are working on the problem.

Ernie Schultz said he is skeptical that anything is being done to correct the problem of trash blowing from trucks at the Edmond Transfer Station, despite promises from the owners and Waste Management.

“The problem is still there,” Ernie Schultz said after spotting a transport truck leaving the transfer station near Covell Road and Sooner Road on Friday.

“Trash blew out of the back of the truck repeatedly as it drove from Covell to Sooner Road into a stiff south wind,” Ernie Schultz said. “When I turned back, my windshield was filthy from small pieces of trash that blew out and stuck to the glass.”

Ernie Schultz, who lives at 5902 Covey Run Drive, has been on a campaign since December to get something done about trash that flies out of trucks leaving the transfer station owned by ETS Enterprises.

A city ordinance addresses such littering, and Ernie Schultz said he doesn't understand why tickets aren't being written.

Officials at ETS Enterprises and Waste Management, the company hired to take the trash from the transfer station, said the problem is being addressed.

Pete Schultze, district manager of disposal operations for Waste Management in Oklahoma, said he has hired a new trucking company, MBI, an Indiana trash disposal and transport company.

The start date is contingent on delivery of new equipment.

“Speaking with the new hauler they now anticipate delivery of the equipment between Nov. 15 and Dec. 1,” Pete Schultze said. “Delays have occurred with the delivery of their new trailers from the manufacturer. We are very confident that this will take care of the problem.”
