In 2003, Maggie Howell and Chef Christine Dowd had the opportunity to buy the Howell’s family business, Aunt Pittypat’s Catering, which jump-started their path to opening Trattoria.
11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday
11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday
11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday
5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday
Closed on Sunday
The restaurant opened in October 2005 and was a dream come true for both new owners, Howell said.
Dowd said she thinks people should come to the restaurant because, “it’s centrally located, it’s a great downtown spot, and it’s the best Italian in Oklahoma City.”
Trattoria’s atmosphere is for all types of people looking for a good time.
“The atmosphere is totally trattoria-style, which means all social aspects of it; someone that makes a million dollars sitting next to someone who saved up all month to come out to eat, rubbing elbows together,” Dowd said. “That’s why I love the trattoria style. It’s really kind of fun, boisterous, loud.”
Dowd encourages everybody to make a trip to the heart of Oklahoma.
“I think everything happening in the downtown area is just exciting for everyone that lives in Oklahoma City, so get downtown,” she said.
The best selling dish is the rigatoni buttera, which includes spicy ground Italian sausage, green peas, tomato cream with a touch of red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese, Dowd said.
The best dishes are the quattro stagioni, which is kalamata olive tomato sauce, roasted garlic, artichoke hearts, prosciutto, Provolone and Mozzarella cheeses with a wild mushroom mix finished with a sunny-side up egg, and Beef Carpaccio, which is thinly sliced seared beef with capers, tomatoes, mushrooms, grilled radicchio, arugula and shaved Parmesan cheese, Dowd said.
