FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A Utah travel agent has been arraigned on charges of stealing $272,500 from the Fort Smith Southside High School band.
Federal prosecutors say 40-year-old Calliope Rocky Saaga of Saratoga Springs, Utah, was arraigned Monday in U.S. Magistrate Court in Fort Smith on three counts of wire fraud.
Saaga's court appointed attorney did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Prosecutors allege that Saaga contracted with the band to provide travel arrangements for a trip to Hawaii in 2012 — but instead converted the money intended for the trip to his personal use and the band trip was canceled.
