BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A travel alert is in effect issued for the north central region of North Dakota, as strong winds are causing blowing snow and areas of near zero visibility.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation issued the alert Monday night for an area including the cities of Garrison, Berthold, Towner, Harvey, Minot, Kenmare, Bottineau and surrounding areas.

Drivers can still travel in these areas, but they're encouraged to reduce speeds and drive according to the conditions.

The DOT advises that travelers check 511 or http://www.dot.nd.gov/ for updates.
