Travel Along: Independence Day in California

Celebrating the Fourth of July while in California on vacation meant putting traditions aside and making new memories with the family.

Knowing that we were going to be in Huntington Beach for the Fourth of July, we had researched and planned for a glorious celebration.

We pre-ordered tickets and T-shirts for the fireworks display at the City of Huntington Beach Pier, so we were prepared for the day. To get to the pier, we contacted Uber and hired a driver to deliver us. This was a smart move, with no worries then about driving or parking in an unfamiliar area.

Outside the pier area were numerous vendors offering mementoes, food and drink. We enjoyed the typical fare – hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches and similar snacks – and were ready for the fireworks.

The beach on both sides of the pier was crowded with people and tents there for the weekend. In addition, an open-air concert at the edge of the beach entertained hundreds waiting for the fireworks. Radio Disney and then Afterparty provided music that was cheered by all in attendance.

Seating on the pier was arranged in six chairs per row on one side of the pier, allowing plenty of room for people to stroll along while waiting for dark and the beginning of the fireworks. While we waited patiently, we even got to witness a marriage proposal on the beach.
