MIAMI (AP) — The first-degree murder trial of a Quapaw woman in the death of a 17-month-old boy is under way in Ottawa County District Court.

Twenty-year-old Skye Reece is charged with murder and child abuse in the February death of Lanceton Hollenbeck. Reece was living with the child's father at the time.

Reece has pleaded not guilty and said she found the boy unconscious on the floor after he fell from his bed. The state medical examiner's office has ruled the child died from blunt head trauma.

The Miami News-Record reports that the child's father — Ryan Nowlin — testified that his son was well when he left for work.

Prosecutors are seeking life in prison for Reece.
