Trial delayed for Oklahoma couple in Texarkana case

TEXARKANA— A federal judge has delayed the trial of an Oklahoma couple charged in the death of a man whose body was dumped last year at a Texarkana racetrack.

U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey signed an order Wednesday that pushes back the trial date for Leslie and Chrystal Larcade. A local newspaper reports that federal prosecutors initially faced a Nov. 1 deadline to decide whether they would seek the death penalty. The judge delayed that deadline until Jan. 11, 2013.

The Larcades' federal trial was pushed back to April 22, 2013.

The couple was charged in both state and federal court for the August death of Shannon Watkins. Capital murder charges were filed in Arkansas court, but prosecutors say those charges are pending until the federal case is resolved.
