POTEAU — A trial has been postponed for a 62-year-old Monroe man charged with felony neglect of his nine children and three counts of sexual abuse.
A local newspaper reports that the man's trial had been scheduled for Monday, but District Judge Jon Sullivan delayed proceedings until Sept. 10.
The children's 40-year-old mother was also charged with nine counts of child neglect and three counts of enabling child sexual abuse but she has been found incompetent to stand trial. Authorities say she is receiving treatment at the state hospital in Vinita.
The Associated Press is not reporting the names of the parents so as not to identify the children.
The nine children were taken into state custody in October. Investigators testified that the children lived in filthy conditions.
