POTEAU — A judge has scheduled a January trial for a Muldrow man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his parents.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Kevin Statham, who is charged in the shotgun shooting deaths of Helen Ruth Statham and Paul Everette Statham.

The husband and wife were killed at their home in Bokoshe in July 2011.

Statham has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Peter Astor, tells the Southwest Times Record (http://is.gd/AeLRDr ) that the trial is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Prosecutors allege that Statham bought a gun in North Dakota, disassembled it and brought it to Fort Smith, Ark., in a Hoover vacuum cleaner box. Prosecutors claim that Statham killed his parents then fled to North Dakota where he was arrested on July 7, 2011.
