NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — The tribal chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes has filed for re-election.
Chairman Tex Hall says he filed his campaign documents this week to run for a fourth term.
Hall was first elected in 1998 and held the position until 2006. He was elected again in 2010.
Hall says he has led a remarkable and unprecedented turnaround of the tribes. He says the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nations are thriving and prospering in part because of a trust fund created from Bakken oil royalties.
Oil production on the Fort Berthold Reservation accounts for about a third of the state's oil output of more than 1 million barrels a day, which has made North Dakota the second-largest oil producing state in the country behind Texas.
