Trombone choir to perform at OU

NORMANUniversity of Oklahoma’s Trombone Choir will have a free concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall under the direction of Irv Wagner, who started the choir when he began teaching at OU 40 years ago.

Sharp Concert Hall is inside Catlett Music Center, 500 W Boyd St.

The choir has performed through the years at the Music Educators National Convention in Atlanta, Kennedy Center in Washington, Music Teachers National Association convention in Philadelphia, International Brass Congress in New York City, and at the International Trombone Workshop and Festival.

The group specializes in performing music originally written for trombone ensembles from the 15th century to the present and offers students opportunities to perform the styles commonly required of professional trombonists, from Renaissance to jazz and avant garde.
