Trombone opens door for OU professor

Irv Wagner couldn’t have known it at the time, but the shiny trombone he saw in a Yakima, Wash., music store window would open doors he never could have imagined. Midway through his fifth-grade school year, Wagner became the only trombonist in his elementary school band. Two years later, he was telling his friends about his plans to become a band director.
