More than 1,000 troops were bused from Fort Sill to Will Rogers World Airport early Thursday to catch flights to their hometowns for the Christmas holidays.
While waiting to board flights, the troops were offered food and warm beverages at the YMCA Military Welcome Center on the east side of the airport concourse. They were served pizza, doughnuts and sub sandwiches, with hot chocolate, coffee and bottled water.
Volunteers from the Blue Star Mothers and Patriot Guard Riders greeted the troops, as did a group of Purple Heart recipients.
Local businesses including Eagle One Pizza and Jersey Mike's Subs provided food.
