SOMERS, Conn. (AP) — State police are investigating an apparent burglary at the home of former Connecticut women's basketball star Kara Wolters.

Wolters says she returned to her home in Somers from a trip to the beach on Aug. 20 to find that someone had taken her 1997 Associated Press player of the year trophy from a case next to her fireplace.

Wolters said she's not sure if that was the only item taken from the home, but said it was the most obvious.

She said she is baffled by the theft and doesn't understand how the trophy would be valuable to anyone else.

Wolters says she is relieved the thief did not find her 1995 national championship ring or her gold medal from the 2000 Olympics, which were not kept in that case.
