LONDON (AP) — London itself is shifting into fall weather but Caroline Charles's catwalk show glowed Friday with the tropical heat of jungle prints, skimpy swimwear and vibrant colors.

Charles, a veteran British designer celebrating 50 years in fashion this year, showed her latest spring and summer collection on the first day of London Fashion Week.

Described as a "riot of color and print," the collection opened with a series of plain black swimwear paired with silk shirts, shorts and wide-leg pants in bright tropical ocean, floral and birds of paradise prints.

Colors were bold and summery, with lots of lime, mango and magenta, and straw baskets added to the holiday vibe. Some models even wore the shadow of a smile to complement the looks.

Later, the collection switched to ladylike, sophisticated outfits featuring delicate lace, tweed and full, ankle-grazing skirts. There were warm-weather jackets galore, some classically fitted with rounded collars and others in flowing, longer styles.

Neat black hats, a tidy low ponytail and colorful wedge sandals tied the different looks together.

The final look — a pristine white ensemble of a belted jacket, a floor-length circle skirt and a wide floppy sun hat — was a vision of innocent beauty.
