— A tractor-trailer driver who crashed into a building off Interstate 40 near Sunnylane Road has died, authorities said.

The wreck happened about 5:50 a.m. Thursday.

A witness said the truck was westbound on I-40 before it went off the road near Sunnylane Road. It barreled through a chain-link fence, over curbs and through a building before coming to a rest behind the building at SE 9.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokeswoman Betsy Randolph confirmed those details and said the wreck is under investigation. The driver will be identified after his next of kin are notified, she said.

“We're not sure if he died from his injuries or from the result of a medical condition before the collision,” Randolph said.

The medical examiner will have to make that determination, she said.
