Tulsa has been good to the Thunder these past few seasons, housing their D-League team, helping sculpt their young players and even hosting a few preseason games.
And now, one of the NBA’s strongest developmental partnerships is expanding a bit more.
The Tulsa 66ers announced their schedule for the upcoming season on Thursday afternoon and, among the 48-game slate, is a Feb. 4 tilt in Oklahoma City.
The team has labeled it the inaugural OKC 66ers Field Trip Day, with tip-off scheduled for 11 a.m. in Chesapeake Energy Arena against the Iowa Energy.
It comes right in the middle of a brief early-week Thunder homestand, with OKC playing Memphis and Minnesota that Monday and Wednesday night (Feb. 3rd and 5th) and the 66ers game sandwiched between on that Tuesday morning.
For Thunder fans, it could provide an interesting chance to see some extended and competitive run for some of their younger prospects, provided the franchise has a few of its players participate. And if recent history is any indication, it’s likely they will.
